IPAG's "Bak2Bak" in Cagayan de Oro
Gender politics is the theme of Bak2Bak when this twin bill of one act comedies of the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) performs in Cagayan de Oro City for its pre-29 th Season offering. Bak2Bak are the plays Babuyan Island by three-time Palanca-winner German Gervacio and Isa Pang Kawing by IPAG Director Steven Patrick C. Fernandez.
Teasing yet painful, the plays essay the "put-on" relationships between couples. Babuyan Island is set in the Batanes during a location shooting where a middle-aged screenplay writer and a young sexy starlet come to terms with their unpleasant lives.
Setting irony in high relief, Fernandez's Isa Pang Kawing is about a scheming couple who weave themselves in among awkward twists and turns in a riotous situation.
IPAG, the resident theater company of the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, casts some of its more veteran actors: Hobart Savior (who recently returned from a Singapore international festival), Lara Maglinao (who's with the international touring group), Phoebe Gayanelo (who's with the national touring company and has done work in films), and Orwel Obach (a professional architect). Vicmar Paloma stage manages with production management by Arlem Abanes and technical direction by Arvin Solis. Fernandez directs.
Bak2Bak which completed a successful 12-show run in Iligan City goes onstage May 12, 3 p.m. matinee and 7 p.m. evening show at the Grand Caprice in Cagayan de Oro.
Supporting Bak2Bak are the Liceo University of Cagayan de Oro, the Liceo Theater and Performing Arts, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Pioneer Insurance and Surety Corporation, and the MSU-IIT. |
