Theatre and Dance Workshops Slated
KUMBINGAN ENSEMBLE, Inc. of Pagadian City invites artists for its scheduled workshops on June-December 2006. The workshops include: Rasabox Acting Workshop, Contact Work and Improvisation Workshop, and Subanen Dance Workshop.
RASABOX ACTING WORKSHOP
This is a 3-day acting workshop using the Indian concept and theory of the Navarasa : raudra (anger), bibhasta (disgust), bhayanaka (fear), karuna (pity), sringara (love), vira (valor), hasya (laughter), adbhuta (wonder) and shanta (bliss). Participants will go through psycho-physical embodiments and explorations of these rasas . This acting technique helps actors to immediately jump from emotion to emotion; starting the work from the outside to the inside. Parts of the workshops will include progressive exercises leading to scene works. Scene studies will be done at the end of the workshop as an application of this acting technique.
This work has been developed by New York's Richard Schechner, Paula Murray Cole and Michelle Minnick. The workshop model has been re-worked to fit the Philippine contemporary theater practice. CONTACT WORK AND IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP
This is a 3-day workshop that will introduce participants to the method and practice of contact work and contact improvisation. Participants will work on improvised scenes, working on the physical or psychological relation of self to other performers onstage, as well as working on other elements in the space and with music as background. The workshop is laboratory in nature where participants will experiment, explore and discover various techniques and methods. Scene works will be done at the end of the workshop.

An added bonus to this workshop is a free ticket to watch the non-verbal theater piece that Kumbingan Ensemble will perform on September 14, 2006. The workshop is slated during the Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur celebration, so the participants will get the chance to witness the week-long Megayon Festival which will culminate on September 17, 2006.
SUBANEN DANCE WORKSHOP
This is a 2-day dance workshop that will train participants in the various forms of SUBANEN dances. The Subanens are the indigenous cultural community in the Zamboanga Peninsula. Participants will go through lecture-demo about Subanen dances, which will be followed by actual practice.
