Kalimudan opens theater for peace tour

After a widely accepted and noted Art for Peace exhibit at the KCC Mall of GenSan last November 27-December 6, 2006, Kalimudan Culture and Arts Center continues its peace advocacy work by launching the first leg of its Theater for Peace component at the Holy Trinity College of General Santos on February 17, 2007 with audience composed of students and faculty of HTC. With its theme of "Itanum Kalinaw" (Planting the Seeds of Peace), the project featured the play entitled "Dula Ta" (Let's Play) written and directed by Romeo Narvaez, and put up gallant performances by Mindanao State University-Gen. Santos' Sining Kabpapagariya performers. The theater for peace school tour is the second part of the peace advocacy wok of Kalimudan Culture and Arts Center with funding support from the GoP-UNDP Peace Programme.
Formed and composed of artists and advocacy workers, Kalimudan aims to use the Arts (visual and performing) as a medium to broadcast the message and cultivate a culture of peace in Mindanao . The Theater for Peace School Tour targets students and the faculty in order to cultivate an open discussion on the impacts of hostilities and war and how the Mindanao conflict can possibly be addressed.
"The Play is about two children, and is meant for the child in us," says writer and director Romeo Narvaez. The play showed how the war affected the children's day-to-day existence and how their choices of games to play and the roles they perform in their child games showed strains of violence and hostility.
The play has been characterized as innovative, artistic, socially relevant local in form but universal in content, providing not only entertainment but inspiring insights that keep us in touch with our humanity. This unique intimate theater experience was a definite first-time for the audience of about a hundred people , watching the actors perform a arm's length. The performance is also followed by a forum with topics dealing on the play and its impact on the audience and the signing of a so-called Social Contract asking for the audience's support to the Peace Advocacy.
