Mati by Maan Chua
Maan Chua got her new old Nikon SLR from grandpa in December 2002. Her first roll with the camera produced 30 completely black screens and 5 underexposed shots. Undaunted, she brought the camera to India while on tour with Mebuyan Peace Project and proceeded to pester Geejay Arriola every 30 minutes or so with two questions: whats-the-reading-for-this and whats-the-reading-for-that. Impatiently, Geejay gave her a 1-minute crash course on speed and aperture. All the other Mebuyan women were complaining about why she brought the heavy camera when she didn't know how to use it. Since then, Maan quietly took shots on her own, learned a few tricks through trial and expensive error, and produced surprisingly good photos of India. The shots below were taken at a resort in Mati, Davao Oriental.
