Daba-Daba |
"Daba-daba portrays symbolic imagesa land of fire in reference to Mt. Apo where it regularly spews fire, a native toponym meaning beyond the high grounds. The sun located between each artworks symbolizes heaven and intellectual enlightenment. Legendary SARIMANOK represents good omen on its fore back a typical illustration of a Father and Child. A picture of the artist being a father together in a fairy tale adventure. A mythological sovereign symbol of Mindanao colours found in a rooster. For me, Sarimanok is splendour, longevity, wisdom and majesty. The circular character composition in Asian myths means luck. The clouds on twirl symbolizes gate of heaven, peace and fortune. The sacred jar in attendants hand, holds the water of life and also symbolizes peace with natures' beauty. Trees grown to protect our lands from droughts and natural calamities. The painter once a fisher folk on his way to the shore holding a bamboo torch to spear light and brings home a bountiful catch. The artist as long way traveller across the hillside following shortcut trails on the hinterland part of the survival is stopover on the neighbouring local natives folks. A cooking session where primitive and old customary utensils used."
